Frequently asked questions

What is the current VAT registration threshold?

The VAT registration threshold is £90,000 of taxable turnover in any rolling 12-month period. You must register within 30 days of exceeding this threshold. Voluntary registration below the threshold is possible and may benefit businesses with significant input VAT to reclaim.

What is Making Tax Digital for VAT?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) requires all VAT-registered businesses to keep digital records and submit VAT returns using MTD-compatible software. This applies to all VAT-registered businesses regardless of turnover. We use accredited software to ensure your submissions are fully compliant.

When are VAT returns due?

VAT returns are typically due quarterly, one month and seven days after the end of your VAT period. For example, a quarter ending 31 March would have a deadline of 7 May. Late submissions incur automatic penalties under the new points-based system.
